Mindfulness Principles

The 4th Congress on Participation Research brings together a diverse group of people with a wide range of personal characteristics. These mindfulness guidelines are intended to provide a framework for positive interaction.

Guiding Principle: Respectful Conduct

In its „Richtlinien für einen respektvollen Umgang an der Universität Siegen“ the university outlines principles aimed at fostering fair and respectful interaction characterized by mutual regard and tolerance (see Preamble). These guidelines apply to all members and affiliates of the University of Siegen.

As the organizers of the 4th Congress on Participation Research, we adopt these guidelines as the basis for our actions and expect you, as guests, to uphold the principles of fairness, respect, regard, and tolerance.

An Invitation to Mindfulness

We envision an event where all participants treat themselves and one another with mindfulness. We invite you to join us in this approach. This means, on the one hand, respecting – and not overstepping – both your own boundaries and those of others. It also means ensuring that others are neither advantaged nor disadvantaged – that is, discriminated against – based on their personal characteristics.

Unacceptable: Boundary Violations & Discrimination

Boundary violations and discrimination occur in all areas of society. They may be intentional, or they may arise from habit or inattention. Regardless of their origin, no boundary violation or act of discrimination is acceptable.
We encourage all participants to communicate their own boundaries clearly, to take a stand against (potential) boundary violations, and to remain attentive to signals from others.
