Course “Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Social Services”

We would like to inform you as a social work practitioner in our region about the opportunity to participate in the seminar “Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Social Services” as an external guest in the winter semester 2024 /2025. This course is offered as part of the BA and MA programs in Social Work and is based and based on the results of the project “Social Entrepreneurship and Social Intrapreneurship” at the Center for Planning and Development of Social Services (ZPE). The project deals with the implementation of innovations in the social sector. It deals with the founding of new social enterprises of various kinds (social entrepreneurship) and the entrepreneurial design of innovation projects in existing social enterprises (social intrapreneurship). The project results were transferred into a seminar program that we want to test with students and interested external participants. In a ‘model seminar’, so to speak, innovative forms of teaching and time formats are to be tested that are otherwise more familiar from the field of adult education (https://zpe.uni-siegen.de/social-entrepreneurship/).

The course is divided into three sections (theory, practice, transfer), each of which takes place from Friday (14:00 – 17:00) and Saturday (09:00 – 17:00). The dates are: a) October 25 and 26, 2024; b) December 6 and 7, 2024 and January 24 and 25, 2025.

The first part of the course deals with basic terms and concepts related to social entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship as well as approaches to entrepreneurial activity in the social economy. We talk about social start-ups, innovations and hybrid forms of organization in the social sector. In the second part of the course, start-up and innovation skills are discussed using specific practical examples. In the third part of the course, examples of successful concepts and business plans will be presented. In addition, the planning and implementation of start-ups and internal company innovations will be played out in a ‘business game’. The course is led by the signatories of this mail. External participants also have the option of attending only individual parts of the seminar.

We would be very pleased if we had aroused your interest in participating, because experience has shown that mixed learning groups of students and practitioners are very stimulating and productive for all participants.
